PrideChess Variant

Trans Chess
“Some pieces just don’t move the same way twice.”

The variant
What changes
Trans Chess replaces the traditional royal pairing with two Ceneos.
Ceneo is an original PrideChess royal designed specifically for this variant. It does not move like a king or a queen: its movement changes with direction, creating a piece that feels familiar enough to learn quickly and different enough to reshape the board.
The rules
Four things to know

Two Ceneos
Each side begins with two Ceneos as its royal pieces.

Straight forward
Ceneo may move any number of unobstructed squares straight forward.

Diagonal backward
Ceneo may move any number of unobstructed squares diagonally backward.

Both are royal
Your position must protect both Ceneos throughout the game.
Strategy
What changes strategically.
Ceneo creates directional chess. Its strength depends on orientation, so advancing and retreating are fundamentally different decisions.
Territory matters differently. Advancement creates power, but overextension can make retreat awkward. Royal safety becomes a question of which directions remain available after every move.
Why this variant
Why PrideChess plays it this way.
For Trans Chess, replacing one familiar piece with another familiar piece was not enough. The variant needed its own royal.
Ceneo was designed so transformation lives in the mechanics rather than only in the theme. The way the piece moves changes with direction, and that change shapes how the entire variant is played.
